Meet Chef Jack Weldie

CHEF JACK WELDIE is the founder of Chipta 11a, a modern omakase restaurant and a proud Sabahan. Jack’s journey began in the back kitchens of Japanese restaurants at just 16 years old, with no formal training. He honed his craft through years of discipline and intuition, eventually rising to become Head Chef at an esteemed Japanese establishment in Klang Valley.
He later took the reins at Awesome Canteen, where he led the culinary direction for six years. Jack crafts menus that are both deeply personal and culturally expressive — anchored in terroir, memory, and respect for produce from both Japan and his homeland of Sabah.
